Equipment Review and Discussion :: Rena Filstar XP4 or the Fluval FX 5

Hello-
Exciting news for my turtle----I bought a 125 gal tank. Now to get him in his new home, I need a filter.

Just wondering what would be better the Rena Filstar XP4 or the Fluval FX 5. Price is a big consideration for me, but so is quality.

Any help on which would be the best bang for the buck any my wallet.

I have one turtle and a pleco fish in the tank and will be adding nothing else.

Tough to say... I personally think both filters are overpriced. However, when you compare the two, the FX5 looks to be more popular.

I recently had to make the same decision. I ended up going with the FX5 because the price was going to be the same as the xp4, and you get more bang for your buck.
Check ebay for FX5s, I got mine for around $150 + $50 shipping.
It has a couple of nifty features that I don't think the xp4 does.
It's self priming, it purges the air out of the filter every 24 hours, and you can use it to drain the tank. I haven't drained the tank with the FX5 yet, but I think it'll make it a lot quicker and easier!
