Picked this one up at the New local pet smart regular 26 bucks for the 40 watt 48" 5.0, but because of the grand opening it was only 18 bucks..
the box says its good for 12-18 months... just want to make sure, how long do they really last? are they a decent buld? the only other brand they carried was Zoomed which i dont like as much exo-terra has better products from what ive seen, i dont mind buying online but getting a 48 inch shipped to the door in one piece im sure will be fun...

tryed a search for it but couldnt find much mention of tubes, everyone seems to use compact...

Yeah. Compact bulbs last for about 6 months then you need to replace them. I am not sure if it is the same way for the tube ones. Just wondering...is there a certain way you are going to aim yours at the basking area?

When I used the zoo med reptisun tube bulbs the packaging said to replace them every 6 months. If it were me, I'd probably replace the repti glo bulb more often than 12 or 18 months but I don't know of any independent studies of the repti glo that say how long its effectiveness lasts.

By the way, the zoo med reptisun tube fluorescent bulbs have an excellent reputation. It's only the compact fluorescents that people have had problems with.
