Hi,
I just thought that turtle enthusiasts would like to know that yes, this yellow slider is actually now in a new home. I'm pretty happy where she's at now. She's got turtle buddies at her new home, so she doesn't have to live all by herself. I've been getting updates by email with pics that are marvelous! She's enjoying having friends and they bask together during the day. I'm ecstatic about this! The people that have her now are serious turtle hobbyists and now have 5 different turtles at various ages, so they've been doing this for a long time. They even had vet ref's.

I wish I could post pics easily in the forum because she's pretty happy in her new home (much bigger tank!).

turtletx, thanks! I'd do it again. Or shall I say I'll do this again, if I find another one. They're pets for life, imo. I'd rather not see these little guys released. That's ridiculous, unless it's an isolated pond with food and with other turtles. Even at that, the turtles need to be checked on, and I'd guess that they'd have to be taken indoors for winter.

In the meantime, I'm more interested in learning about wild turtles and I've been looking at these really extravagant outdoor pond setups that people install in their backyards.

suggestion, lol. If you get a pond, dont buy the pre-formed,lol. I have a larger pre-formed one but there are soooooo much more possibilities with the the liner type.

joz-z and others! I would suggest that a lot of current turtles owners started off not knowing what it takes to keep and raise a turtle, me included. You should decide early to keep or do something else with your turtle. My very first died because of my inexperience. Way back then the only place to get information was to attend a Herpetological Society of Jacksonville, Fl. meeting. I am a firm believer that if you have a pet, take care of it or find someone who will.

Just be glad Smileyturtles is doing something to help someone.

Mike- Some people get them as gifts, some truly don't know how to take care of them. I think what I hate most, is people who don't know how, realize they don't know how, and make no effort to educate themselves and find out.

There is a lack of common sense that infuriates me when it comes to new turtle owners. They buy the turtle on a whim, take it home, and then realize they don't know jack about taking care of it. Why would you buy an animal without knowing how to take care of it? It's one thing when a kid or teenager does this, but grown adults? Ugh.

I love my turtles, but, I don't understand why turtles are popular. Great personalities, but they require more maintenance than a dog. Maybe it's because they are the only reptile I've seen that strangely looks mammal like. I guess some people think that because it walks, that means it's like having a reptile version of a dog. How wrong they are...
