itzrasaqboy wrote:so other than the Boutique Pet Store and Aquarium where are some more good pet stores to buy stuff for turtles. im looking for a pretty big turtle tank that comes with stuff to set it up (eg. basking lights and basking rocks). i found 1 at petsmart but its only a 20 gallon tank and i wanted something bigger. im in the dallas area so something around the area is fine with me

Go to petco. They have cheap big tanks or try craigslist..

I have to admit I was a bit annoyed that they were selling the babies. They had cooter hatchlings when I was there. I find it hard to believe that there is a high demand for cooters in educational settings. But they were in a good set up - not over crowded or dirty at all. All of their tanks looked very well maintained.

What do you think about the birds being in fish tanks though? They had a whole wall of screened in tanks holding the birds. I was impressed at how many different species they had, but the area seemed cramped. Maybe it is an unusual way of seeing birds for sale.

They were nice people though and I did get the impression that they knew their stuff.

Screw-H -- I would be happy if they would follow me back to the turtle dept. Maybe I would get some help. It has been my experience, the few times I do go to a chain store, that they are afraid that I am going to ask them a question. When I do ask a question I get the 1000 yd stare or a duhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Its so crowded too its really not someplace you want to be followed in. Not like they can do it discretely either. Now that you all are talking about it, I think they called my kids down for something - but to be honest my kids usually need to be called down for something. :) They have one of the coolest aquarium set ups I have ever seen though. Floor of the tank to the top filled with flat stacked rock. Lots of caves built in - really cool.
