Equipment Review and Discussion :: Any Reviews of this Zoo Med Floating Log?

I understand that this probably only works with smaller turtles (if it works at all). I'm just curious if anyone has had any luck with this product. I know that the floating ramp is by the same company and also only works with smaller turtles. I guess the main thing I'm wondering is whether or not this is dangerous for a turtle. I've never actually seen one being used in person... just these pictures.

I don't think its' dangerous... But i figure the way my turtle is with the floating basking spot, (that wobbles sometimes) It would be kinda difficult for him to get onto it. But then again, idk if other peoples turts are the same, when it comes to getting onto wobbly objects. I would rather put my money into a under water structure for him to hid in.

The turtle log is used by a couple of people on here. I personally don't have any experience with it, but I see two issues. One the turtle can get inside it and as your turtle gets bigger there is the possibility that it could become stuck in the log. The other thing is that it doesn't attach to the tank and can float other places than under your UVB lighting.

As for the floating dock. Those aren't just for small turtles. I have two 4 inch turtles, so basically 8 inches of turtle, and they both fit fine on my large sized dock. Some people who have larger turtles have had to reinforce their docks, but they actually will work for most of the life of your turtle.

I have the log as a non basking platform. They love to hide in it, and when they want to be in a cooler spot, all three will climb up on it to sleep. I have a dock for them as a basking platform, but they enjoy the log as a toy of sorts. I know I will need to get rid of it when they get big enough to have a sticking issue in it, but I think it's a great structure for hatchlings. I ma unsure how it would work as a basking platform though, because it is quite mobile, and rarely stays in one place for long.

I saw another post when I was searching for something else. The person had taken a string and tied it between two suction cups, looping it through the log. It held the log to the side of the tank. I'm sorry that I don't remember who did that to give them credit, or so that you can see the picture, but do a search and you should be able to find it!
