so my parents want to get me this one for christmas:

ill it do for my 29 gallon tank? my parents think its "too much money for my tiny turtle" anyway. i feel like it better than the filter i have now. the one i have is not a canister filter and is just submersible

I'd try to get a hang-on power filter for that amount. It may not be a canister, but you can still put bio media in it.

i think im gonna get that just bc if i use a hang on i have to completely re-do my ATBA

would be ok if i went with this? i rly dotn want to re-do my ATBA. my dad helped me build it and he claims to not like my turtle but goes into my room and watches it everyday. and he would be upset if we had to re-do it or make a new one. at least right now.

The ATBA covers the entire top? Or about half?

rsour24... how old are you? Do you get any allowance? Perhaps you could save up all your money for a better filter and maybe your parents can help you with half or something instead of buying you the filter they want to get you. That's what my younger brother used to do when he wanted something. He'd save up as much as he could, then my parents would help him with the rest.

you could possibly save up for your own canister filter and ask your parents for filter media for christmas? it'll be a much better idea to get a professional filter for your turtles.

I used that same type of filter on my 29 gal when I first started with turtles and I quickly found that it got way too dirty way too fast. I then tried a HOB filter only to find out that the water level was too low for it to suck water into the intake. I found a used fluval canister filter on craigslist for $40 and it works great. Maybe you can find someone locally that has a used canister filter you could buy instead of spending a lot on a new one.
