I grabbed it from ebay... the total was cheaper. As far as I know, it's been accurate indoors as long as I stay within the infrared zone of 1 inch. The emissivity of water has not been a problem, though the model I have is not adjustable.

By default, it's set to 95E and water is at 0.95 (http://www.electro-optical.com/html/bb_ ... isivty.asp) which I suppose translates to the same thing. I'm not really knowledgeable on the subject, so I hope my findings are somewhat useful.

BullDog -- I Use this foodservice thermometer: http://www.comforthouse.com/thermometer2.html

It is very accurate, to measure the basking area I just leave it on there (with the light on) for 20-30 minutes and turn it on. It seems to work well. I'm jealous of you IR thermometer users. :?

P.S. - My thermometer has been under water for a whole night once, and come out operational. It's a tank.

Thanks Pap. I've got one like that type which I use for food. That one is cool though because it even says it's dishwasher safe!

I thought about going the food thermometer route, but it'll be about the same price, so I figured I'd be better off going for an aquarium on.

Steve - I'll have a look on eBay for a PE1 (or 2). I looked once before and they still ended up being $40 or so with shipping :/
