I am so sick of my Magnum 350. I've replaced the magnetic impeller about three times now! This is because we have fine sand in our well water, and it gets trapped in the impeller chamber and destroyes the magnet. I was wondering if I could just buy a submersible pond pump and hook up the filters intake tube to the pumps outtake tube. Then I could just run the filter with the motor off and prevent more damage. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Would this pump work for a 50gallon?

Jaws-mrt - The Marineland Magnum 350 is a good filter pump. I have three of them and I have one that is about 17 years old. Yes, having sand in your water can cause problems in the magnetic impeller. I would suggest that you put a whole house filter on your water supply and that should do it. I am not sure if there are too many that will handlle sand in the workings. The only problem I have with the Magnum 350 is that they are a little more noisey than my Fluvals, however they are a little cheaper. m.

I have three of these things as well and just can't agree with you about that. The other two I use on a pond with tap water that isn't sandy and have the same problem. I guess that's just my luck. Thanks for the advice!
