I need to get a heater for my 55 Gal, is it ok to get a glass one? I've seen the tetra turtle heater and it looked weak and small but is it actually good? If anyone would like to share what they use or recommend a good brand, Thanks... also what temp. should it be set at?

Marineland Stealth Visi-Therm Submersible Aquarium Heater 250W (200W or 300W are OK too). It is completely submersible and not made of glass which your turtle could break. I bought one based on recommendations I found on other posts here and am quite happy with it.

Temperature can be within a wide range depending on the age of your turtle. Suggested range is 78-82F for hatchlings, 74-78F for adults.

Make sure you also have a good thermometer since you can't just rely on what you set the heater to. Ideally, having 2 different types is better and not expensive; a digital thermometer (about $10) and either a glass floating (about $3), or external stick-on (about $2).

Oh, and I would suggest that you don't buy anything (tanks, heaters, filters) labeled as 'for turtles' since they usually aren't adequate for the intended task and are typically more expensive, just because of the 'turtle' branding.
