just got my fx5 hooked up. i really under estimated how big the thing is. it has to sit next to my stand cause it wont fit in it. it is VERY strong. i have the 2 outputs pointed at the glass. im going to have to order different media for it. now im using the media from my old filter. im going to have to get different foam filters. i need a finer one cause right now my tank looks like crap.

Does it seem to be too much power for the tank? How does your turt handle it? You get more media in there and it will slow down a bit.

its strong flow but i was able to position the outlets so that it doesnt make everything go crazy. before i did that though cujo would swim against it and whenever he would stop, he would start getting pushed backwards. he seems perfectly fine with it now. i would catch him just looking at the outlet wondering what it was doing in his home. now he is back to normal. i was able to find a "cut to fit" fine filter pad and stuck that in there and its helping alot. its in a 55 gal tank that is filled up probabl 3/4 of the way. yeah, its a big filter for that size tank.

Sounds great. We used to have an in tank fluval filter for Mikey's 55 and he used to swim back and forth in front of it all the time. When he did, the current would push him towards the front of the tank, but he seemed to like it. I'm glad you were able to adjust it though. This filter should last you a looooong time. Congrats!

thats the main reason i got it. i figured if im going to by a filter why not by one that will last.

Yah, those things are BIG!

I looked at one in person recently, to maybe put on our longer term "wish list", especially at the $200 or so that they are selling for on eBay.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw it was "WOW, a garbage can with hoses attached". Had to reset our thinking more along the lines of an XP2 or XP3, although even those are bigger than I expected. I am more used to Aquaclear filters, where even the biggest one still hangs off the tank and just doesn't seem that big, but gets the job done.

i read that it said that it was 16'' diam. and 17'' tall. just didnt realize how big that actually was. haha
