i just bought one from Big Al's with the hopes of it taking care of my algae bloom and also killing any parasites. does any one have any experience with one?

I don't have experience with a UV sterilizer for the tank, but my chemistry lab has one to kill bacteria, which concerns me if you have a filter and biological filtration, you may kill your beneficial bacteria while you are at it.

It will kill the bacteria that pass through it, but the population on the tank surfaces and biomedia will be just fine.

If it is connected to your filter, make sure it is connected to the outtake and not the intake. Otherwise, don't worry about it killing beneficial bacteria if they are already established.

yeah i planned on hooking it up to the outlet hose

it came in today and i was in the process of hooking it into the outlet of my filter but i dont have enough hose to mount it where it needs to be. can i just go to the hardware store and get the right size? none of the pet stores here carry just the hose

Yes you can just get hose from the hardware store if you need it.

I replaced the hoses on my XP with hose I got from the local hardware store. Works perfectly.
