Various accessories and equipment discussed here.

I believe I have landed a pretty good deal. I found a new Eheim 2260 at a garage sale type place for $55. I went ahead and bought it (simply because for that price I thought it was worth the risk). But I am wondering though if it will be way too large for my 55gal tank (I am upgrading from a 10gal for little Tuck). Anyone have any thoughts - I know the suggestion is 5X the suggested rate. Eheim External Filter 2260 without Filter Media:
Aquarium Size: 396 gal
Filter Volume: 4.8 gal
Pump Output: 502 gph
Weight: 20 lbs
Flexible Hose Diameter: 1" inlet and 5/8"outlet

Thanks for your input. I am new to this and trying to get him set up on the cheap. Assuming this is "new" and in good working order then I would like to use it.

Wow! Great deal!
That's equivalent to the Fluval FX5. I've heard of 2 different people using the FX5 in a 55 gal, so I think it'll be OK. If you can, aim the output towards the side of the aquarium, so the current isn't as strong.
Other than that, just make sure your turt isn't having any troubles swimming, and I think you're set for life! :D

I was thinking that this was a really good deal. I havent been able to test it yet. I hope I've not bought a lemon. I will check back and let you know if i got snookered. I am glad to hear though that should it be in good order, I can use it. Whew!

Thanks!

Mat 12 --If your filter does put out 502 gph that is great. That is more than 5 times the volume. Just make sure that the suction or inlet side has a grate on it so you turtles don't get stuck to it and drown. With that pumping volume you should have little trouble with clouding. Good Luck. b.

Thanks Bascomb!

I would have never thought of that. We had a scare with the floating dock the other day. Tuck doesnt realize he is bigger and got stuck in the rails. We just happened to walk by and see him. Thanks to the forum I learned to take off the bottom suction cups. If it had happened at night or during the work day, we would have been devastated!

I have seen some pictures of inlets with foam on the end. Would that work to prevent problems or would it reduce the suction? Again thanks a lot!
