Anyone have or seen one of these in person? I'd like thoughts on it for ambient and basking fixture purposes. The idea of leaving the clamp lamps behind entices me to no end!

I see the Slider Hood when I look at the link, not a filter...

I have read (in other forums) of a few people using this product and being positive about it. That said, turtles don't really need hoods---it can make it difficult to provide different temperature gradients with the tank covered. You didn't say what kind of light you'd be using, but for getting away from clamp lamps, consider hanging the light (especially if you have a larger tank and want to use a mercury vapor light), either from a lampstand (Zoo-Med makes them) or something of your own creation.

I had a light fixture very similar to the hood, the only thing different was the hood itself. I liked it my only problem was the I wanted to change to a MVB and the hood will not support that type of bulb. I'm also not convinced that the UVB will sufficiently hit the basking area. I would definitely think about it before purchasing the hood does limit you is areas.
