I bought a can full of them today and it says to refrigerate them after opening. this may be a stupid question but You only refrigerate them and not freeze them?

Are you talking about the can-o-crickets? If so, they aren't the best choice because you should only feed them as a treat and from what others have said, they don't really last long. I used freeze dried crickets from Fluckers.. last forever.. and easy to store..

They are "Exo-Terra" crickets and the instructions says to refrigerate them

I gave him one today. He ate a wing and lost interest in it. Peanut doesn't like his cricket!

They go bad fast and aren't worth the money. The freeze dried crickets are gutloaded so they're a better option if you don't want to have live ones.

I recently bought some Exoterra canned crickets (on sale) and have to say they're pretty bad (I don't blame Peanut for not liking them). If I do buy canned crickets (which I do very infrequently), I get Zoo-Meds mini crickets (it must say mini on the can). They're tender and don't have big lets or wings. The canned crickets are low in protein compared to the freeze dried ones, but they have next to no nutrition,so they're best only as an occasional part of the diet. I usually freeze half the can to use later. I have multple turtles, though, so much more of the unfrozen half is used before I throw them out. For one turtle (especially a small one) they can be somewhat wasteful.

I've bought the can'o crickets from ZooMed in the past and I refridgerate them after the can is open. The good thing is that I have 2 kids who eat these mini-crickets (RES + aquatic frog) and the can never lasts longer than 6 days (3 feedings for Sheba, 6 for the Frog) since they eat them all.

Never tried the Exoterra or freeze-dried crickets.

Spot loves freeze dried gut loaded crickets. I put them on his basking platform and he pulls them down into the water to eat them. A jar of them lasts a long time when you give them as occasional treats. I don't think they're as gross as the canned ones!
