Hello

I wanted to try some DIY foods,gelatin isnt easily available here in my area,so was just wondering can i use egg yolk instead of gelatin.

Egg yolk is very different from gelatin, and although pieces of hard-boiled egg whites are sometimes given to turtles, the yolk is not. I wouldn't use it.

What exactly are you trying to make, and are you trying to use something to "hold" the ingredients together? If so and if you're going to cook whatever it is you're making, I'd use the egg albumin rather than the yolk (keep in mind that this will be a really high protein food if you do).

Nah,I dont want to cook the ingredients...just wanted a substitute for gelatin !
I wonder what would be wrong with the egg yolk ?

Then don't use the albumin/white either if you're not planning to cook it.

I think that the yolk, unlike the the albumin/egg white, which is basically protein, is fatty and I know it's high in cholesterol. Don't feed any part of the egg raw, even the white---you could make your turtle sick.

Every recipe I've seen for turtle food says to cook the mixture.

with the ratio of 3:1 :: lettuce:chicken liver.

I will add multivitamins & calcium.

Now,how do i cook it ? i will definitely boil and grind the chicken liver.Grind the lettuce mix it then add maybe egg yolk(since i dont have gelatin,or something else tht you may suggest),then freeze,thaw, & slice it.

Once again, I wouldn't use egg yolk. If you have egg yolk, you also must have the white of the egg. Use that.

I would just use minimal water and eliminate the egg altogether. Especially since you're planning on freezing it anyway.
