baby painted turtles

I have 2 baby turtles they are about 3 weeks old now. And one is bigger than the other one likes to eat and the other one not as much. Could it be i have a male and female or is it just cause one doesnt eat as much

One is out competing the other. It happens often when there is more than one turtle. Use a separate feeding container (which can help with your water quality) or take out the big one during feeding.

Basically what Steve said. But sometimes one will eat more then the other just make sure they both get fed

okay thanks. I found out she will eat with the other turtle longs your not watching them but I'm trying the separate container now. Ill let you know if it works(: i hope so

it somewhat worked. she ate a little bit but I'm still happy to see that she ate more than with the other turtle in the tank with her

okay so i have been feeding them in separate containers for about a week now. and i feed them the same amount its just the big one seems to be getting bigger and the other one seems still tiny

I wouldn't expect immediate changes, especially if the other larger one originally consumed a significant amount more.

Yeah I have two turtles, one that will follow my hand and eat pellets when I'm standing right over the tank and one that takes tages to get to food(by that time the other one will gobble up everything) and won't eat when I'm hovering overhead, so I typically put that one in a seperate container so he gets as much time as he needs to finish all his food.

Sounds like that's the best way to do it. I wish I knew this stuff when I started out.

chiming in late. I have two RES one male one female The boy was an eager eater when he was younger so he grew much bigger than the girl. (fatter lol). Eventually the girl found out she had to 'fight/chase' for her food and they are roughly the same size now (1.5 yrs old) as they got better at chasing food (actually the boy got dumber lol!) so it worked out in my case.
Probably not scientific but I let nature take its course and in my case it worked out lol!
