Feeding and Nutrition :: HELP my RES ate cheese...what to do!?!

The "Expert" at our local aquarium outfitters said RES could eat cheese... Very sadly- one has died (but she ate alot) and the other ate only a tiny amount and is acting odd. Is there anything that can be done? Or is this a wait and see thing? Sometimes I think he is OK and other times I think he is not...and then he seems fine again.

Reptiles can't digest dairy. He's problably clogged up.

Hopefully he can pass the cheese through his system, but your best bet is to go see a vet, or call them and ask if they have some sort of digestion aid.

Thanks- I should have done my homework instead of just trusting the guy at the store. I just feel so bad for the little guy!

I hear pumpkin is a good way to get turtles to pass their food. You might want to try a little pumpkin, altho it's sorta out of season atm.

Went to an AWESOME Herp Vet in Athens GA today- he said Fro is probably ok. HE got a couple of injectins of Vit D and Calcium and he is lots perkier this evenng! This Vet showed us his RES that he has had since he was a kid! The turtle was 45 years old!! SO COOL!!!

What a jackass! The "expert" I mean, not you or the herp vet. If someone got me to feed my RES something that would make him sick I'd throw a fit.
