Y would you want to feed them frogs? Frogs are not breed as feeding food for turtles.

Minnows are healthy, the feeder fish in petstores- Rosy Reds are fathead minnows

frogs are decently cheap and are probly fun to eat and would probly add to their sense of life, but i dont want to feed them gooey poisin lol!!I didnt see it mentioned in the sticky but maybe mr/mrs sticky knows if I could.


I asked about minnows because the person at petland said that they are in the same family as goldfish, and the sticky said that goldfish arent healthy so I imagine that so are minnows.thanks for your replies!

Well, I dont know how nutritious they are, but I have a pond on my farm that has some wild RES in it, and I see them eating baby bull frogs. Also about minnows, they are better than goldfish, but most you buy from petstores are diseased.

I've fed my turtles frogs and they loved it. It was a very violent death for the frog, but it made for quite a spectacle. But do NOT feed them toads!

The tree frogs that you find outside could be eaten, but you're always rolling the dice with live feeding. The frogs might have a sickness or have a parasite that could be passed to your turtle. Some frogs are poisonous, like dart tree frogs, and obviously these should not be fed. Toads are usually fatter and bigger than frogs, and are generally brown whereas frogs are green. This isn't always true, and what you should do upon capturing a frog that you want to feed to your turtle is look up what species it is on the internet. Once you identify it as safe/not safe then you can decide to feed it or not. I played the odds and won, I found two frogs in my yard and just dropped them in the tank. They could swim, but the turtles had their way..

what about those frogs that live in water that u see at some fish stores there like pinkish and live in water would those be alright

Those are the kind I found in my yard (they were pinkish/whiteish) and the turtles gobbled them up. Just double-check the species so that it's not toxic, some frogs have poison in their skin or in glands.

I would stick to the minnows its cheaper. that guy at petland knew nothing saying they belonged to goldfish family. Most people in petstores know nothing.

Frogs are not recommended for feeding as they can be toxic to turtles and are more protein than a few fish. Plus, all of the frogs in our pet stores are expensive!

Unless you know 100% that the frog is not toxic, is healthy, and all that, I would stick with feeder fish. However, if you find a random local collection of tadpoles in a pond, you could raise them, and isolate the next generation for feeding. I would not feed wild-caught anything (fish, bugs, etc) unless you know you are parasite and pesticide free. So, if you are living in the backwoods of some place with a thriving ecosystem, maybe. But for the other 99% of the population, stick with pet store feeders.

Rosie red minnows may be related to goldfish, but you don't feed goldfish because they are fatty. Have you seen a goldfish compared to a rosie red? Goldfish have that extra fat in them, whereas rosie reds are mainly muscle. It's not that goldfish are inherently bad, it's that feeder goldfish, in particular, are unhealthy.

TCG, i'm not talking about it as a staple just as a treat once in while, by the way I've noticed people in this forum mentioning tadpoles for their res is that better?
