Just need to grumble about Frankie

Last weekend I did a major clean of Frankie's tank + filter, and took out the heater at that time, since the weather is getting warmer. She ate that night (a jello shot), but the next night she didn't eat all of her pellets, which is really weird.
She used to go nuts for lettuce too, but hasn't eaten her usual amount of that. And after so long, I had gotten her onto sweet potato, but she didn't eat that the other night.

The water is a bit cooler, yes, but it's still at 75C. With the heater I thought it was getting a bit too warm (79). She's still eating, it's just not the usual amounts, and it just seems out of character for Frankie.
Not sure if she just feels she doesn't need all the food with the "cooler" water, or if it's her form of a protest

Anyhow, she's otherwise acting normal, and basking the normal amount, so I'm just going to keep an eye on her, and I guess cut back even on the pellets.

Could Frankie be ready to bury some eggs? I have been watching Spike for any decrease in appetite as a symptom of having eggs that she needs to deposit in the yard. I will probably freak out and go have her xrayed again, just to be sure.

Never thought of that... I didn't know their appetite decreased. Good news is that it's getting warm now, so next sunny day I'll take her for a walk outside :)

My RES wasn't interested in eating at all when she wanted to lay her eggs, I wouldn't say her appetite slowed down... she was just fixated on getting out of the tank.

you should put sand on the bottom of tank and notch up that heater a few more degrees see if that helps, by the way 79 is NOT too hot for a RES

Sorry if I sound abrasive, but what good would sand on the bottom of the tank do?

  sorry, I forgot that they lay their eggs OUT of the water not IN the water.

Have you had a chance to take Frankie outside yet?

No, we got a bit of a cold spell. It's been warming up again, so maybe by the end of the week it'll be warm enough. All the same, I don't think it'll be too long of a trip outside. The ground is still pretty cool, since it goes into single digits overnight.

She is eating though. I stopped giving her pellets in the evening (as usual), since she just refused to come down when it was dinner time. A couple times I gave her pellets in the morning, and she gobbled them up, but I don't want that to become a habit :P
I tell you though, she shoots off the dock when I offer something "good" for dinner... Last night salmon, and tonight jello shots. She sunk like a rock to the bottom when she dived off tonight!
And the veg are disappearing by the next day for the most part.

Well that's good! Maybe she is just having a weird spell.
