Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

hi there! Just read the jello shot sticky--can't wait to try! Meanwhile, not enough variety of veggies in the house. Here's my problem:

about two weeks ago, I gave them some hard boiled egg whites as a treat. Since then, it seems they won't eat ANYTHINg else. I thought they were eating their pellets, but they are just disintegrating. Of course I gave in and have given more egg whites (about 3 times since then...) and they LUNGE for them. LOVE them. So tonight, I have green beans.

I don't have tuna in the house because I can't even stand the smell of it. However, I have omega 3 fatty acid (fish oil) pills. Can I dip the beans in that, or could that be harmful? If I can, do you think it would help?

I've created monsters!

are you doing it just for the smell to try and get them to eat them? if so im not so sure it would work to get them to eat it and even if it did work i would be a little nervous about giving it.

well, I am wondering if the fish oil might attract them--scent and taste. But I'm asking because I would be nervous, too. Wondering if anyone knew for sure if it was okay or not... ?

I think as soon as you put the beans it the water the oil would just wash off. Then you'd have an oil slick on the water.
Also, I don't think it's a good idea to give them oil. I don't think it would be healthy for them.
You can try using the water from tuna, and soak the beans for a while to see if that entices them to eat.

Hmm, good point, BullDog. It would probably just wash off. Okay, I give up! Tomorrow I go buy tuna. I have literally never had any in my home. I can't even stand to be near it at a restaurant. blech! The things we do for our turts! :)

Make sure you get the tuna packed in water, and not oil. Good luck! :)
