Feeding and Nutrition :: your turtles favorite veggies

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Wed Sep 24, 2008 2:04 am   your turtles favorite veggies

My girls have finally moved on from tuna to green leaf lettuce and carrots ... I know this site also recommends dandelion and turnip greens ...

That aside, I'd be curious to know, what veggies do your turtles like the most?

One of mine will eat anything that hits the water. the other will eat Anacharis, carrot, Basil, and green leaf lettuce. He will try other things, but usually won't eat much of them.

I assume you cook the sweet potato? How long - like if I were going to eat it myself?

You can boil the sweet potato until cooked, and then let it cool to give it to them.

My turtle *loves* dark green lettuce, like the dark romaine pieces or green leaf lettuce. I can throw anything else in there, and the lettuce is the first grabbed.

Red leaf lettuce too - and he has started to go for the sweet potato. I just microwave mine in some water for about 90 seconds. It softens enough to be eaten.

Mine aren't too big on veggies; even the anacharis I bought is still living in their tank! For now I just feed them jello shots.

I love watching mine tear apart blueberries!

It also eats cilantro pretty fast, with red leaf lettuce, carrots, sweet potato, and romaine other things it will eat.
