Feeding and Nutrition :: Frozen Dried Shrimp

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

People say that RES love frozen dried shrimp, but how often should I feed it to them?

And what kind of food can I feed to my RES to get a healthy shell, like foods that are really good for the shell shedding and so forth?

Anything high in protein (fish, feeder fish, crickets, worms, boiled chicken, boiled egg whites, or frozen shrimp) should be fed as a treat, sparingly. I tend to give a head-sized piece no more than once every two weeks. So, if I give my turtle 3 feeder fish (he's around 4"), that's his treat for pretty much the whole month. I have freeze dried crickets, so he can have maybe 2 twice a month. And the rule isn't for each type, it's for all types. So if you give feeder fish, no other high proteins for the whole month.

Shell shedding, blueberries! They promote healthy shells and shedding. You can give 1-2 blueberries almost daily without too much of a problem.

take compgremlins advce.

i used to feed my first turtle freeze dried shrip exclusively because he wouldnt take pellets at first, and he grew really fast (not good) and still has left over shell pyramiding because of it.

i feed them shrimp twice a month. it is truly high in protein
