Feeding and Nutrition :: Berries and other questions

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Ok, I know when it comes to fruit/berries it's best to keep it at a minimum because of the sugar.

I'm curious as to what berries are ok. I love strawberries, black berries and raspberries. Can Hurley have the black/raspberries? What about other fruits like watermelon? Or any kind of melon?

Also, he has a new favorite weekly treat.....WAX WORMS! OMG, he loves to grab them, spit them out, drown them, bite them again and then enjoy every morsel. It's so gross to watch but he adores them. Is 3-4 SMALL ones ok once a week? He is very good about eating his greens, gets a mix of different pellets every other day, little cuttle bone pieces once a week, one cricket-blue berry-strawberry once a month.

I want to keep his diet varied but without freaking him out or hurting him..

thanks for any help!

Oldy but a goody:

Watermelon and cantaloupe are on the okay to feed as fruits. Just don't go overboard with the amount and they're okay. My only concern about raspberries would be the seeds, if you could get the seeds off, I'd say the fruit itself is probably pretty healthy.

Wax worms, from what I can find on the internet, they are a little on the fatty side. I'd say 3-4 once a month at most, just because they are fatty (like 55% fat versus 25% protein).

Blueberries! Good for you - good for your turtle. Among other things, theyo contain vitamin e, which helps the shell to shed. Relatively low in sugar.

My turts love cantelope (high in beta carotene, which they make Vit A from) and when it's in season, they get small amounts fairly frequently. They've never taken to watermelon (they just sniff at it just like they used to do when I gave them the occasional piece of cucumber---I don't think they like the smell), but if your's likes it, thats fine. All the fruits you mentioned are fine in moderation. I'd avoid citrus fruit, though.

Waxworms are rather fatty. I bought them once. My turts weren't thrilled with them and I found them to be disgusting.
