so i just bought turtle bone by zoo med , and i'm just wondering if i have to do something to it first, before i put it in my tank...

I have never bought the turtle bones, but I think they come with the hard backing like cuddle bones do. You need to peel it, or a better term is chip it off. It's too hard for them to bite through.

Yes, one side of the bone will have a hard backing. You can dig your finger nail into one side, but not into the other. Most people use a knife to chip it off. Be careful!

For future reference, turtle bones are the same as cuttlebone, which is sold in the bird section, and is often cheaper than turtle bone.

I soak mine for a couple of hours before breaking the backing off. I think it helps.
Mom to:

Turtle bone is cuttlebone in a fancier box (and at a higher price). :D
