I noticed a small wasp nest over the pond while cleaning the filter today & turned the hose (jet spray) on it to get it down. The nest fell outside the pond, but 3 wasps fell into the water. Before I could react Liza moved in & had 2 eaten and was going after the 3rd...which was swallowed as I watched.

She was so quick I couldn't have stopped her if I'd tried. At least one wasp was still alive...I assume they all were - I didn't use poison after all, just a jet of water. How is it she can eat LIVE WASPS w/o any signs of a painful sting???? I looked @ her mouth afterward & she was her normal self - just checking out my fingers to see if I was holding pellets. I fed her some & she ate them just fine.

They never cease to amaze me!!!

They can get stung, but anything they can over power and eat, they will. maybe the stinger gives them a spicy flavor?

I once fed Sheba some of the hornet babies after I removed a small hornet nest one chilly morning from my carport. She loved 'em and I imagine those soft little maggot were very tasty for her! Of course the baby hornets don't have stingers yet.
