You still need to take the back off- I bought the "Turtle Bone" thinking that it wouldn't have the backing on it, and it still did. The backing can get really sharp and you don't want it going through your turtles insides.

That's dumb that they make a specialty turtle bone that has a dangerous part of it with no warning!

They should put something on the package for turtle bones, i agree. If i were you i'd just get plain cuttlebone from the bird section of the store. It's exactly the same thing as turtle bone....but cheaper.
