Feeding and Nutrition :: No Vegetables Ever

I've tried numerous times over 4 months to try to get my baby RES to eat vegetables. He takes no interest in it. He takes no interest in anything I put in there unless it's pellets or meat. Is my RES sick or something or should I try more?

Have you tried any aquatic plants? You can usually find some in the aquarium section at petstores or you can order them online. That would be a more natural way to offer them veggies and if it's in the tank for a while your turtle may develop a curiosity for it and give it a try.

Before my Spot would eat any other vegetables he'd eat fresh basil. I don't know why he finds it so appealing. He'll eat other things now (he's four) but he still loves his basil.

I think the best luck has been with Anacharis. I have seen many posts with excited owners whose babies will eat that at least. It's available at pet stores in the water plant section, or you can get bigger quantities nline if he likes it. The nice thing about aquatic plants is that they will live in there until the turtles do decide to eat them.

Duck weed is another plant that the little ones go for. My turtles ate that before any other plants. They love it! And it doesn't clog the filter as much.

Try some anachris. It looks nice and will just stay in the tank until your baby starts nibbling on it.
