Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hi, I would like to start giving my turtle live plants to munch on, but my local pet store doesn't carry any of the types of plants listed in the "What to feed your red eared slider" section. Are there any water plants that I need to stay away from, or are they all OK for my turtle?

Thanks,
Daniel

Stay away from Brazillian Sword (also called Peace Lilly). I found that out the other day when I brought one home :P Anacharis is used by a lot of people, and also Amazon sword. My Ralph loves eel grass (Vallisneria species). Other than that, check out the types that your pet store carries, and just google it to see if it's safe :)

Also, you'll want to see what grows back fast (if you plan to keep the plant alive), otherwise it'll be a year growing a 5 minute snack (like rotala... oops :P)

Anapsid - Harmful & Poisonous Plants (from the Reptile Keeper's Handbook)

These are considered to be very good aquatic plants:
Anacharis
Duckweed
Water Fern
Water Hyacinth
Water Lily
