Well, marisa said that the legs are hard. So maybe break the legs off and cut them into smaller pieces. It's not going to be a fun job, but maybe he'll eat it.

Yes, they are the mini crickets (I think there's 300 in the can). They usually are sold in petstores along side the regular size ones I've gotten them at both Petsmart and Petco. Sometimes they get mixed up, and you have to read the label to make sure they're the mini ones. If you're just going to buy that one item on-line, it may not be worth it (make it part of a larger order).

My RES had the regular ones only once when he was smaller, and he pretty much hated them. I broke the legs off and threw them away, he wasn't keen on eating the heads.

If you get some minis and he likes them, smoosh some of the cricket on a pellet and see if he goes for that. Or, you could let some pellets soak up some of a crushed one (add a tiny bit of water if there isn't enough moisture).

Realize that these are just for variety, and shouldn't take the place of pellets. Have you tried Reptomin Baby (made for smaller turts). Most hatchlings really like them. I'm still feeding them to my eastern painteds, and they're going to be 2 years old this fall. I rotate them with other pellets.
