Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

We went to the store today to get supplies to make the jello shots. The store didn't have kale, so we had to get regular lettuce instead. So when we got back home and the wife started blending up the jello shots, I decided to drop a piece of the lettuce in to see if the turtle would eat it....took him about 20 minutes of examining it, but he ate the whole thing. So how often should he be given just plain lettuce and do you do just the leafy part or is the stalk part ok too? Is the jello shots a good daily meal and should it be given once or twice a day?

I tried to give him a small piece of apple, but he nipped at it a few times and then just ignored it.

Added note, Spencer LOVES the jello shots. We have to get out portions refined a bit, because after 3+ hours the shots were still kind of icky in the middle and bottom, so not exactly sure how we are going to freeze them. Wifey bought mini muffin pans (24 muffins per pan) and filled each slot up and we still have enough mix to make another 24 jello shots. I think next time we'll only do half way on each slot.

Spencer is super happy and I'm very happy to know that he is getting a lot more vitamins than he normally gets.

Red leaf lettuce and romaine are better for him than kale. As for how much to give him, my RES get about two full leaves worth and I remove the stem. Keep a close eye on the stool... as long as it's not very loose, you should be OK. :)

Yeah, I tried Kale once in Jordtim's clip, and he just spit it back out. He loves his red leaf lettuce though.
