Feeding and Nutrition :: my turtles and fish in one tank.

It's weird, there's a topic saying feeding guppies, now i have 5 guppies in with my turtles, its now been 2 days, the turtles have recognized them as fish but have not eaten them, i also have a 2 inch long algae eater and a 1 inch long catfish, neither of them have been chased by them, i didn't put the fish in there for food, i actually put them in there for more company and to clean up there mess..So i guess not every turtle eats the little guppies

they will be eaten. sometimes it takes awhile though

As your turts age they will probably become more adventurous. Mine lives with about 20 fish plus some fry and rarely even pays them attention. A couple of the fish are more aggressive than he is. But that said - he has made a few meals out of some of our former fish buddies.

heh after atleast 6 months of keeping plecos in my turtle tank, one of them has DISAPEARED. Just don't get too attached!

And then on the other hand, your turtle may not end up eating them. It's not unheard of. As everyone said, don't get attached, just enjoy them for as long as you can!

Over a month ago I got two rosy red minnows as feeders for my turtles. They went completely ignored until a week or so ago, when the smaller one mysteriously disappeared! The other minnow is still living happily with the turtles (and does do an ok job of cleaning up, like you mentioned). I don't even have to feed him; he just lives on pellet crumbs! So anyway, your turtle might develop a taste for the fishies, and he might not. But chances are he will.

Mine only eats them after they have died of old age, lazy perhaps. My one minnow is big enough he can fix half a pellet in his mouth and just swim around with it. But eventually they will be gone.

My Zeke EVENTUALLY eats anything in his tank, it may take a week or two for him to 'catch' up to it but he gets them. He's a big boy

Here's a rosy red minnow story you'll enjoy:

I added about 12 minnows to my tank which houses two sliders measuring about 2 inches each. Each day, a few disappeared. One night I heard splashing sounds coming from the tank....couldn't imagine WHAT was going on. Amazingly, the more aggressive slider had hold of the shy one. The shy guy caught a minnow and the agressive slider wasn't happy and wanted it. Unless I separate my sliders, I cannot add minnows to their diet! They've been together since they were hatchlings and get along, except at feeding time. I separate them for feeding.
