Medias the stuff you put in your filter. Carbon is one very common filter media. Bio-media like the little rings that help estabish colonies of healthy bacteria in the filter are good to have for your turtle tank too. The smaller filter in my 10 gal goldfish tank has a carbon insert for chemical filtration and a porous sponge insert serves as the biomedia.
