Feeding and Nutrition :: Is this Cuttlebone?

I went to the pet store today looking for cuttlebone and this is what i got.
Should i feed this Boog? is it safe? i asked the person who works there and they said it is cuttle bone, but i heard something about peeling somthing off. Am i able to feed her this?

a cuttlebone is quite literally the bone inside of a cuttlefish


the thing you got looks like compressed chalky stuff that is often used as a cuttlebone substitute for birds. Its fruity smelling and a little more expensive. I honestly do not know whether it is ok for your turtle or not. but this is what you should aim for next time you buy one

I don't even know what that is! Can you provide details from the packaging? I don't know if it's safe or not ...

That looks kind of like cuttlebone that has had the backing removed, and carved into a strawberry shape. Is it powdery and kind of soft? Like not quite dry plaster?

is it powdery, but chalky also. I asked the store personelle and he said it is cuttlebone. This is the closest thing i could find, it did not come in a package... it was like a box full of those. I found it in the bird section, the store personelle said that it was for bird's to maintain their becks.

Next time you are at the store, look for something like in the picture Take-One posted. It will be in the bird section of the pet store. The "turtle bone" that is sold in the reptile section is the exact same thing as a cuttlebone, only more expensive. You can save a few bucks and buy the plain cuttlebone from the bird section.

sadly i do not have a petco in my area.
BUT i found cuttle for birds, i will take a picture of it later today, and how to feel it to Boog.

Have you tried just checking at wal mart? My walmart carries the same cuttle bones they have in pet stores, so you might want to try there.
