Feeding and Nutrition :: Wardley turtle food?

Does anyone have an opinion on Wardley turtle food? I have been seeing it everywhere and was not sure if it is "good" or just "readily available".

PS The 55 gallon is set up and the turtles LOVE it! I will have to post some pics!

I think I heard that Wardley lacks a few of the components or has less of them than other brands. You'd have to compare labels to be sure. In any case, the pellets are only part of the balanced diet so any shortcomings could be made up with extra protein or plant matter or even supplements I suppose.

I think they upgraded their content a little while ago, so it's healthier now. It's the only kind of pellet Mikey will eat.

Wardley is not the best in my opinion there a little bit small and I keep mine in a wooden cupboard for about 2 months and I saw little brown bugs crawling in the pellets.So I just threw them out.I say stick with Reptomin

If you're going to feed Wardleys, why don't you alternate it with one of the highly recommended brands like Reptomin or Mazuri. That way the one brand may make up for any shortcomingsin the other brand.

Rexi gets Wardley Sticks and HBH Turtle Bites and just to mix it up some we also have some reptomin that has dried shrimp and krill. She seems to really enjoy everything we give her.

So, they are just "readily available" and not good? That is really awesome to know! I was also going to order some Mazuri. I know some enthusiasts who swear by it.

Mazuri is the best turtle food that I've heard of. I'm going to try again to switch Mikey to it.

Mazuri is tops. Spot loves it and he's thriving on it. I alternatate it with Reptomin just for the heck of it.

As a matter of fact Wardley's makes a dried shrimp that one of my baby RES will eat. She can't get enough of it. Its ok as a treat and sure is smelly but I am still sticking with reptomin for pellets and I think ill try mazuri becuase it goes over so well with some of the more experinced RES owners

Sheba has been a Reptomin-girl for 18 yrs so I have stuck with that pellet (as well as Mazuri, which she also eats readily). I tried Wardley's when I first got her many yrs ago, but she wouldn't eat it.

As long as you provide a varied diet, it won't hurt for Wardley's to be a part of it. It's not supposed to contain some of the nutrients that some of the other foods like Reptomin, Mazuri, etc., do, though (unless it's been reformulated).
