do you have a UVB and UVA bulb too? And it doesnt matter about the watts, just that you have the basking temp 10 degrees warmer than the water. You can get a certain thermometer for that.

I have a bulb and it says its heat but also gives off UVB rays also here is a picture




Also I do have thermometers one is in the water, the other right next to the basking area. The temp. diffrenece is about 5 degrees I will throw in some ice cubes now.

Just make sure the degrees in the water is between 78-80 degrees. The light you have gives off heat as well as UVB? Usually you have to have 2 bulbs for that.

I put some suggestions regarding a UVB bulb in the Introduction Section where you introduced yourself. You listed your equipment there and asked for suggestions.

The importance of UVB is that it causes a turtle's body to produce vitamin D, which is essential for the absorption of calcium. Turtles have to absorb a lot of calcium to maintain healthy bones and shell. Without good UVB light, their bones and shells will get soft and eventually they'll die. They'll be ok for a few weeks though while you're getting your setup just right.

I have a suggestion. If you didn't go to the store and buy the uvb bulb yet, then you should check out online stores and see if you can get it way cheaper. You probably can. In petco by me it is like $49, and online the exact same thing is $19.99.

Actually most of the things you will need for your turtles home are cheaper to get online.

That's a pretty good site actully. I don't know why I didn't see it before. I think I'll try it.BUT all the UVB bulbs they have are those tube ones. I can afford anyelse like a new light holder. I do havean extra one of those dome lamps like the one in the picture. So I must get a UVB bulb(that fits in the dome) not flourescent tubes

Here's a good bulb from another on-line supplier of good repute. I buy from them all the time with never a problem. You'll probably save a lot of money if you buy on-line and you have almost unlimited selection to choose from:
