Feeding and Nutrition :: Breeder

So... I bought these guppies about a week and a half ago to feed to my turts. There were five to start, and then they ate two. One of the guppies looked a little fat when I bought them, but I thought it was just because they had eaten alot on the last meal at the pet store. The pet store told me they were all female, but apparently either one of them is a male, or one of them got got before they were separated, because today... (much to my surprise) I saw baby guppies (Frys?) swimming around by the heater, and hiding out in between the rocks that are near it. I was wondering why Morty kept sitting over there, but now I guess I know... HAHA all this time I was panicking, and thinking that he was trying to find some of the gravel that used to be in the tank, and that he was impacted and was going to die (I had seen him eating rocks a few times before). My wife laughed, and said "well... more free food for the turtles.". So thats my story... just wanted to share.

Is there anything that I should do??? Or should I just leave the baby fish to go about their business?

Depends on if you want to make sure they live, or use them as turtle food.

If you want them to live, take them out of the tank, keep them in a smaller tank (no filter) away from any other fish (even the mom will eat the babies) and feed them flake food ground up really small.

I think that I'll just let them alone in the tank and see how they fare... from what I can tell, there are only two in there at the moment, so I'm assuming that the other guppies ate them, or Morty found himself a nice feeding spot and chowed down on the rest of them.

Don't worry about them. They will eat any leftover food in the tank & will grow over time (that is, unless you turtle eats them first, LOL!).

Cool that you got babies! I will warn you that one of those guppies can give birth to about 12-20 guppies, just so you know.....!

They don't give live birth do they??? I swear I thought they laid eggs first... which is weird, cause I just changed the rocks in the tank, so they eggs would have gotten thrown out right?

i cant answer that but hope they keep having babys,, then your turtle keeps getting free food!!

i think they lay eggs, almost positive but not 100%

definitely live bearers and they will reproduce like crazy! I had a few (large) gold fish in my tank that were eating most of the babies, but once I took the goldfish out I had tons of babies, I had to separate out the males from the females because it was getting crazy. About every 2-3 months I had a new batch of little ones swimming around.

Whooo... I'm a daddy again!!! LOL weird I thought that they laid eggs... so far I only saw two.... so the rest got eaten????
