Hello... I am sad to announce I must give away my baby turtle... her tank broke last night and the cats are in constant drool over her.. I have fortunatly found a caring home for her. They have an outdoor pond, but with no fence. They said their other sliders come and go as they please... if she is 1x2 inches... is this safe for her??

I don't know this person, but I'd say find someone who takes the safety of the turtles into consideration. Letting them 'come and go as they please' is fine if they're wild turtles. If they're supposed to be pets, they should be protected by a fence, among other things. Personally, I wouldn't give mine to the person you're referring to.

I agree with Jen. For all practical purposes, you have a captive turtle. A turtle who is used to being fed and cared for. You are talking about placing her in a wild environment and it isn't a safe option for her.

Have you considered a temporary set up for her? You can easily do this with a 10 dollar rubbermaid container.

I live in Southern CA.... I have a couple other prospects that also have ponds... I am in the process of getting more info from them... ie: fence, if they care for their turtles as pets... ect....

If your turtle is a hatchling/baby, it would be good to find someone who will care for the turtle as a hatchling and not just put it out in a pond.

Agreed. Hatchlings are very delicate.
