Habitat - Outdoor :: First Winter

Ponds and other outdoor enclosures.

Post Posted: Fri Oct 17, 2008 1:39 pm   First Winter

Hi all,
We live in Baltimore and it can get pretty cold here. Harriette is 6 years old and has lived indoor here entire life until this summer. I built her pond in what was a dog kennel. It's 6' long 4.5' wide and 38' deep. There is 6' of gray pond clay on the bottom.
What heater and aerator should we obtain? Water lilies are growing on the pond's surface, do we need to pull them out? Should we cover the pond with netting?
Thanx for your help.

Hi Rich, I do not think your pond is large enough for hibernation. Nearly everyone here avoids its by bringing their turtles indoors. I would expect that a pond should be at least 2000 gallons to even consider hibernation.

Um yeah.... Threads dont really move around a whole lot on this area of the forum. It was probably only like 20 spots down. Lol. On a busy forum, you would have been flamed to death. :)
