The turtle will more than likely not return on it's own. Is the pond in your backyard? And is the backyard fenced off? If the yard is fenced off, you should have a decent chance of finding him in bushes, and if you see any dug up dirt, start digging in looking for where the hole leads to.

Good luck finding him, keep us posted on what happens.

no its a pond in my front yard so I guess after 2 years of caring for him he'll just leave ?????hmmmm can red sliders live in brackish water? see I live on a cannal thats salt/fresh water. so if he doesent come back I hope he survives .[/img]

If I were you and you are familiar with his markings, I would check the canal if it's really close and SAFE. I would deffinately raid all bushes for sure. As for his survival in brackish fresh/saltwater, I'm not quite sure. I'd imagine he would live a while, but the saltiness of the water would harm in some manner.

How long has he been MIA?

he was in the pond at noon today when we came back from the beach at 5:00 I did not see him, but he has free roam of some bushes around the pond so its not unusual for him to be out of site. however he never misses his 6:30 feeding. That when we started looking for him to no avail. the wife found the damaged fence. so he could have been gone for hours allready.

I imagine it's late for you right now, he should be sleeping now. So try waking up early and giving it another go, around your neighbors bushes and as I said the canal.

Here are some tips on locating a missing turtle:

http://www.redearslider.com/lost_turtle.html

He will probably seek out water eventually, so make sure he can get to it.

don't give up. Sometimes they show up after weeks and weeks of being missing. They are pretty tough and can survive without food and even without water for quite awhile.

Good luck. I sure hope you find him soon.
