Could someone tell me if i get one of the algae eater type fish would they eat the left over food and debris or would they have to eat algae???

They would, but would probably be eaten by your turtles eventually unless you had a lot of hiding places and spots where it could blend in, even then, however, it's not safe.

my turtles are hatchlings and they are less than an inch in legnth i will try it and if they eat it then oh well i guess it will be a treat
