We use to have really small gravel in my turtles tank. They ate it so we switch to a little bit bigger gravel and put a couple river rocks in there.Every now and then I see them try to get food in between the gravel and sometimes eat it.Should i switch rocks and if so what type
If the rocks are smaller than your turtle's head, than yes, change them as they will be able to eat them and could get hurt. I use rocks that come in a green netting from the dollar store. They are smoothed out and are about the size of golf balls; I believe they are called river rocks.
Yes by all means take out the gravel - the sooner the better. There have just been too many threads on here from people whose turtles ate gravel with disasterous results.
