the "best" media

whats the best media for the Filstar's? i just got an XP4. and i have nothing in it except the Micro pads, i was thinking about stars but idk???

Stars or Rings either one are a good biomedia for your filter. I used the rings that I already had established in my fluval filter before I made the switch. The rings and 2 types of pads are all that I have in my xp3.
I'm looking forward to a review on the xp4 too!

a guy said matrix media by seachem works good but for turtles i think mechanical filtration works best

I think one package of Filstar's ceramic rings is to be used for every 55 gallons of water, a package of stars for every 110 gallons of water (if I remember correctly). Either is fine, or you could use both, more biomedia media is better, and if you're not using carbon, there's that empty basket that would be good to fill...

thanks guys i got stars, its working great now. so far no algae and/or ugly spots in the tank.

You won't actually see the effects of the biomedia for a long time. It takes time for the beneficial bacteria to grow and start breaking down the turtle waste. This is called cycling your tank. This can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks.
