I am thinking of making my turtle a beach area with a pond. I was planning on using the playground grade sand available at Home depot. Is this a problem? I understand not to use gravel, but is sand a problem?

It's a debatable question...some would say don't use it, others have used it, even in their tanks. I don't remember all of the cause for arguement, but I don't see a problem with it. Sand is considerably smaller than the gravel, and the playground grade is heavy and packable.

This person also used the home depot play sand:

The second last post on the first page suggests you put the sand in a bucket and agetate it with a hose to get all the lighter stuff out.
