Habitat - Indoor :: Help with filtration.....

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

So I am back first time since November. The 125 gallon is holding up well for our 2 red ear sliders. We ended up getting a big filstar filter and it was working out fairly well. But as the tank gets more and more dirty as my little beasts get bigger and bigger, it has become very clear that I don't have enough filtration. We have a sand bottom. The tank is about 2/3 full and we have one very large female and one much smaller male res. we also have fewer and fewer guppies as they can no longer reproduce fast enough to keep up with the snapping jaws of Moe and Red. And last but not least we have a very large and very old Raphael catfish. We looked at the Fluval FX6 but our cabinet is not big enough to fit by one inch. I am looking to either add to the existing filter or get one that can filter all the water. I do water changes weekly and rinse out the filter and check/change medium monthly. But that is not cutting it right now. We are not handy enough to make our own filter and like for most people, finances are an issue. I am looking forward to a little direction! Thank you

It's hard to beat the FX6. Could you place the filter beside the tank?

If that's not an option you could look into an fluval 405. My filstar has been a nightmare so I don't recommend them. I own an fx5 & 6 and they are great filters.

Oh I really want the FX6!! So it depends in if the heighth of it is 21 inches INCLUDING the output nozzles or 21 inches just to the top of the main apparatus. If all included it's 21 inches then the hubby says it will work! Anyone interested in taking a measurement??

It's 21" to the top of the input and output valve's. So 21" overall with hoses attached. :D

Thank you so much for measuring! Well the height will work! We only have 16 inches across. And the box says it's 16 inches. I just don't see that even if I get it in that we will be able to maneuver enough to maintain the filter. I am bummed about it. We are not willing at this point to keep a filter on our floor. So NOW plan b. I want to get a filter to work in ADDITION to my crappy filstar. Any suggestions??

The fx actually measures 14 1/4 handle to handle. As for other filters well fluval 406.

Keep in mind that the pump that's mounted on the bottom does make it 16" but if you can put it in your stand sideways it will fit. Does that make scence?

Don't have one. Tried a tape measure but the picture didn't come out well. Just have to take my word on the measurements.
