I recently discovered mold growing underneath my basking area, while cleaning my tank out. I got a stain and poly in 1 from Sherwin Williams, ( never again i personally think it sucked after i got it all painted ) but anyway i cleaned off all the mold, and now I'm wondering what i should do to prevent it, my turtle is in a temporary tank till i figure out what i need to do with the basking area.

What is made of? Wood? It would opt to add a layer of acrylic, but that depends on how much water contact there is. If it's a lot, then it should be all glass or plastic. I also wonder about a coating like Plasti-Dip or Drylok for existing ATBAs... but if you can replace parts, consider glass or plastic (acrylic).

yes the bottom is made of wood.. i was wondering if deck sealant would work? or would that be harmful to my turtle?

Aside from what I mentioned previously, I think custom aquarium builders also use marine paint. To find out if what you're looking at is safe, read the products msds.

I would use acrylic not wood. Also ,its really pretty cheap considering it will last forever.
