Hello all!

Soon I will be moving, and am wondering what the best way (safest way) to move my turtle is. Especially in regards to the water, and keeping beneficial bacteria alive to start the new environment in the new home. Are there specific steps to take? Or do you just drain and move?

Any and all info would be appreciated!

How long is your move? What kind of filtration do you have? Tanks should be completely empty of all water, substrate, decorations and equipment before moving. If you have a bio media, bag it in some tank water. Clean out your filter and have it ready when you unpack.

The turtle should not be transported in water or in a tank. A box lined with towels or newspaper is a start. Depending on the length of the drive, you might need to rehydrate/feed the turtle.

this won't be a long move at all. less than .25 miles away. I have a carrier for her, that I put a towel down in. (which she instantly tries to dig up)

sorry I should have mentioned. I have an EHEIM canister filter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002AQXV8/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

So you're saying I should bag the media in tank water? Would transporting the filter, with the water still in it, but the hose clamps in the OFF position, be a bad idea?

I'm not familiar with that canister, but since it's a short trip, just shut the valves and place the filter in a large plastic bag.

Thanks Steve! Do I have to let the filter run for any length of time after setting up in the new place, before putting the turt back in?

Get it running as soon as you can... in an hour or so. You can probably just set up a temporary tank with a large plastic storage container.

Thanks! Is there any length of time you should let the filter run with the newly filled tank before putting the turt back in?

Just make sure the temperatures are within the recommend limits. Would be a good idea to add fresh carbon to the filter so it can absorb the chlorine.

Thanks Steve! Actually I was planning on setting up one of those water changer/home carbon filter combos that is a sticky in the forum. Seems like a good idea.
