Habitat - Indoor :: Black Brush Algae infestation

I get lazy with my water changes and next thing I know my tank is infested with black brush algae and blue-green algae (cyanobacteria).

Before I got nuke the tank with peroxide I like to try some of the off the counter algaecides like Algaefix and Algae Destroyer. Anyone have any experiences with them? I plan on taking the turtle out during treatment and doing a complete water change after.

Sorry to say I have no experience with these. I used aquarium salt and vinegar when I cleaned out my algae issue.

I've heard of copper being used in treatment though it's lacking in details. A bleach solution is also an option but I usually scrub like crazy and replace the filter media.

It's a turtle tank, not a reef tank so you don't NEED light. Let your turtle bask elsewhere and shut off the lighting to your turtle tank. Algae can't survive without light.

If it's a planted tank, the best thing is to treat the plants outside of the tank - clean them and treat with flourish excel.
