hi, so i have just recently bought and cleaned a 75 gallon tank and stand for my about 3.5" res. i ordered all the necessary materials thanks to the recommendations of this site and i am just awaiting the delivery to get clyde moved in. there is one more thing i need to figure out, though.

i bought my tank/stand from craigslist. the stand was previously filled to the top for a fish aquarium. the stand was built by a "master carpenter" according to the previous owner and he assured me of its structural integrity. the concern i have is not with support but with the tank stability on top.

the stand is built with no board on the top of the stand itself. so there are a few exposed beams and the tank rests on the frame which has a lip so the tank is fit in there nice and snug. i have already bought a zoo med repti light stand and i just realized that the bottom of the stand needs to be sandwiched between the top of the stand and bottom of the tank, but i have no "top of the stand".

i cant put the bottom support of the stand on the middle tank stand support beam because the light will be blocked by the middle support on the top of the tank itself. i guess i could just get some thin wood and cut it to fit the size of the tank stand and place it on top of the support beams as a top of stand lid of sorts, but that would likely be too thick for the lip and the tank wont be in the grooves of the stand on the corners.

any ideas on how else to get something there for the light stand?

Most of the pressure is on the edges on the tank. On my metal stand for a 100 gallon tank, there are no center braces (will need to double check later). I would probably consider adding a thin board, though I would need some idea of what it looks like. Maybe some brackets will do the job?

I have one of those lamp stands as well. If memory serves me correctly it comes in 3 parts, the base, a slender pole that goes into the base and an extension piece. Plus the screws, You could just try to find some kind of bracket to go onto the back of the stand to hold it in place or if its possible to drill two holes in the bottom of the pole that goes into the base you could probably just screw it into the tank stand,

My suggestion would work with this or you could just cut out a notch to allow the plate for the stand to slide under OR you could get a piece of wood large enough to cover the top to allow it to sit on top. Maybe a piece of thick plywood that you could either stain or paint.

really lots of different ways to address this.

That's a really beautiful stand, there. I hope you get it to work.

Put it in the corner, so the supports on two adjoining walls will provide sufficient support.
