Habitat - Indoor :: new setup, am i missing something?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

ok, so my setup was a bit too heavy for the plastic containers used to hold the pool up, they were all starting to buckle after a few days, so me and the GF went to the local yard here and got 5 tower of cinder blocks.

in doing so, we decided we needed to re-arranged the pool set up to hopefuly give the turtles a bit of more swimming room.

so here it is, with the new setup we have calculated that it is 200-225ish gallons.

the turtle's basking area is off into a corner and they are always on it and playing while we are present. but the biggest improvement was the swiming area, Jingles is just barely able to stand almost perfectly verticle and get his tiny nose just out for a breath. It has 3 seperate caves, and an "easy" and "hard" ramp to get to the basking area...it has a shallow area as well near by. in the "deep" end of where all the water is, i have a power head just making a current where the turtles both go for a swim, and "merge" into the currant similar to how cars do on the highway, and once in full current it's like a treadmill. I can't tell you how many hours they play in that. Also I added a golf ball and 2 pool rings, as Jingles lovews to swim in the rings and well sally is a bit clumsy and sometimes drages them about, but they always go back for more. Lastly the new filter pump we got for free was a killer bonus as well, we now have 2000 gallons/hr filter and it keeps that tank crystal clear and mostly free of any poop.

anyways if you can think of anything I may be missing please feel free to chyme in.

It looks good.

Is there a chance the turtles can puncture the pool lining?
Do you have a heater?
What kind of filter are you using? - I ask because you mention crystal clear which a pool filter will do. A pool filter does not provide much biological filtration to keep the water free of invisible ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate.

pool is hard plastic, so not a chance, it was very hard to get a hole for the drain.

pool filter is used for mecanical filtration, the output is going into a basket that has many scrubbies and bio media...i test semi regularly and if memory serve me correct they are well within range.

also water changes are a breaze since I simply take the basket out and put it in the floor channel that goes to the drain and i have a hose in the same room to refill.

Yes i have a 300 watt heater located under the basking rock area.

Excellent. Sounds like you have all of the bases covered. Nice work. I like the shape of that pool.

oh these guys have so much personality....when i go down to sit by them and just hang out and put the top 40's music on, it seams some song they really dig as sometimes, not often, but sometimes Sally the bigger one will actually stand up and kinda bounce to the music....she looks like a bulldog the way her body moves and what not.

Most times if they are basking if I'm able to not startle them, i can talk really low to them and they will crock their heads both in unison to see what is making the noise I assume, but it looks like they are posing :)

That is an awesome set up. I couldn't tell from the pictures, but is there anything keep them from going over the sides? Where do you keep this huge set up? Great job btw

the setup is in my basement, the pool is 5 feet by 7 feet and is on the top of an old table...the table is then set on top of cinder blocks. So far all is stable

The sides are simply too slippery for them to get any grip to go over. In the corner where the basking spot is.....i put a few pieces of mega lego blocks as a wall to just be extra safe....they have not even tried to get out :)

thanx for the compliments
