Habitat - Indoor :: Do you Have To Use A Dome?

I have been informed that the UV light (on the right) i have is not doing any good where it is and is just wasting electricity.

The light is emitting from all the way around the lamp and not focussed down where the turtle is.

I have been advised to get a deep dome clamp lamp fitting for it.

Is this the case or is it alright as it is?

Really dont want to be spending more money if it is ok as it is.

I have the dome. It does work wonders as fas as concentarting the light. I also have a special holder for the dome

I'm not sure your setup would allow for it though... Of course, I don't think you could connect the dome to your setup without it causing problems.

For the UVA probably not so much since it's sort of got its own built in reflector. However just look at the UVB and imagine all the ray loss you have. Honestly looking around I haven't found one manufacture site yet the doesn't recommend a proper dome fixture with their UVB bulbs.

I would put either a dome or some type of light blocker around the UVB bulb, especially if the tank is in an area frequented by people.
